Course Overview
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (Gym-based Exercise) is a technical-level qualification that develops your knowledge, understanding, and technical skills required for a career in the sport and active leisure industry as a personal trainer in gym-based exercise.
The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to work effectively and competently as a personal trainer in gymbased exercise, which includes: anatomy and physiology for exercise and health, principles of exercise health and fitness, know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity, health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment and nutrition for physical activity.
You will also develop the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and instruct gym-based exercise programs and personal training programs.
This qualification is of a suitable size for inclusion in study programmes.
This qualification is completed through the exam board, the VTCT (Vocational Training and Charitable Trust), and is regulated by Ofqual.
This qualification is regulated on the Regulated Qualifications Framework and has been mapped to the following NOS:
• Level 2 Exercise and Fitness suite (A335, C22, D451, D452)
• Level 3 Exercise and Fitness suite (D460, D461)
This qualification is approved and supported by SkillsActive, the sector skills council for active leisure and learning.

Candidates must hold a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification. However, in this instance, the gym instructor qualification is embedded within this qualification.
Course format:
12 practical (classroom) training/assessment/exam days + online learning modules + case studies
+ monthly video calls for coursework support (dates tbc)

UV20523 - Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
UV20524 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
UV20525 - Principles of exercise, fitness, and health
UV20526 - Planning gym-based exercise
UV20527 - Instructing gym-based exercise
UV30536 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
UV30539 - Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
UV30540 - Programming personal training with clients
UV30541 - Delivering personal training sessions
Duration:
GLH (Guided Learning Hours): 346. (GLH incl. Practical, coursework, case studies, assessments, research/reading, revision, and written exams)
Home study (Coursework): This is completed in your own time

Attendance:

Model required:
Yes, you will be required to work on models to carry out your case studies at home.
You may be required to bring a model for one-to-one training and for your assessments
Case Studies:
You must carry out and document evidence of a minimum of 12 personal training sessions (4 clients x 3 sessions)
