Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training Online: Your Next Step as a Teacher or Trainer

Aug 24 / Karen Ashton
If you've already started teaching, delivering workshops or training others within your profession, you may reach a point where you want to develop your skills beyond simply knowing your subject.

Being an expert in massage, beauty, fitness, complementary therapies or another vocational subject doesn't automatically make someone an effective teacher.

Teaching is a professional skill in its own right.

The Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) gives you the opportunity to develop those skills while working towards a regulated Level 4 teaching qualification.
🎓 What is the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training?

Often shortened to Level 4 CET, the Certificate in Education and Training is designed to develop the knowledge and practical skills involved in planning, delivering and assessing education and training.

The Focus Awards qualification is suitable for people wishing to enter a teaching role, trainee teachers, those who already have teaching experience and people who have worked in assessment and want to progress into teaching.

It has a credit value of 36 credits, with 360 Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 140 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

👩‍🏫 Who is the Level 4 CET suitable for?

You don't have to work in a traditional school or college to benefit from a professional teaching qualification.

Many vocational professionals eventually reach a stage in their career where they want to pass their knowledge and skills on to others.

You might be a:

📌Beauty therapist
📌Massage therapist
📌Complementary therapist
📌Sports massage therapist
📌Fitness instructor
📌Personal trainer
📌Healthcare professional
📌Salon or clinic owner
📌Workplace trainer
📌Assessor
📌Vocational tutor
📌Industry specialist

You may already be delivering training, or teaching could be the next stage of your professional career.

📚 What will you learn?

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training takes you through key elements of the teaching and learning cycle.

You'll develop your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of an educator, before exploring how to plan learning around the needs of your learners.

You'll look at how resources can be used effectively, how to create inclusive learning experiences and how to deliver education and training in a way that supports learner development.

Assessment is another important part of the qualification. You'll develop your understanding of how learners can be assessed appropriately and how assessment and feedback contribute to their progression.

Most importantly, Level 4 study encourages you to go beyond simply describing what you do.

You'll increasingly analyse, evaluate and reflect upon your teaching practice, helping you understand not only what you do as an educator, but why you do it and how your practice can continue to improve.

💻 Can you study the Level 4 CET online?

At Holistic Therapies Training Academy, we've designed our Level 4 CET to combine the flexibility of online learning with practical teaching development.

You'll work through structured course content and activities while building the portfolio of evidence required for your qualification.

Assessment is portfolio-based and can include written assignments, projects, teaching documentation, assessor observation via live video, witness testimony, questioning and other appropriate forms of evidence.

There is no written examination listed as the assessment method for the Focus Awards qualification.

🎯 Do you need to already be teaching?

No.

The qualification is suitable for those wishing to enter teaching as well as trainee and experienced teachers.

However, the Level 4 CET is a practical teaching qualification.

You will need to plan and deliver teaching with learners as part of your assessment and demonstrate your ability to put the principles you've learned into practice.

This can be completed within a simulated teaching environment, meaning you don't necessarily need to already have your own class or be employed by a training provider before enrolling.

🎓 Do you need Level 3 AET before starting Level 4?

Focus Awards does not specify the Level 3 Award in Education and Training as an entry requirement for its Level 4 Certificate.

That doesn't necessarily mean Level 4 is the right starting point for everyone.

If you're completely new to education and want an introduction to planning and delivering teaching, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) may be a suitable first step.

If you already have teaching, training or related professional experience, you may be ready to progress directly to Level 4.

🌿 A teaching qualification designed with vocational professionals in mind

Teaching a practical skill presents different challenges from simply delivering information in a classroom.

Imagine teaching a massage technique.

You might need to explain the underlying theory, demonstrate the technique clearly, ensure every learner can see what you're doing, monitor health and safety, supervise learners while they practise, adapt your approach when somebody is struggling and assess whether each learner can perform the technique safely and competently.

That's why vocational teaching requires more than subject knowledge.

At Holistic Therapies Training Academy, we specialise in education within beauty, massage, complementary therapies, sports massage, fitness and related vocational sectors.

We understand practical training because it's what we do.

Our aim is therefore not simply to give you course materials and ask you to complete assignments.

We want you to develop the confidence, knowledge and professional teaching skills to support your own learners effectively.

🚀 Where could the qualification take you?

A Level 4 teaching qualification can form part of your wider professional development as an educator.

Depending on your existing qualifications, experience and the requirements of the organisations you want to work with, you might use your developing teaching skills to:

📌deliver professional training
📌teach within a private training academy
📌deliver your own workshops and courses
📌provide workplace or staff training
📌work as a vocational trainer
📌develop an existing teaching role
📌progress into assessment and quality assurance
📌continue towards higher-level teaching qualifications.

Focus Awards specifically identifies its Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (RQF) as a progression route from the Level 4 Certificate.

🏆 Is the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training recognised?

Yes.

The Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) is an Ofqual regulated qualification.

Qualification number: 601/6341/0
Level: 4
Credit value: 36 credits
Guided Learning Hours: 140 hours

This is worth checking when comparing teacher-training courses online, as not every course advertised as a Level 4 teaching, tutor or train-the-trainer course leads to a regulated qualification.

Ready to take the next step in your teaching career?

If you love your profession but increasingly find yourself wanting to teach what you know, developing your skills as an educator could open the door to a completely new stage of your career.

Whether you're progressing from Level 3 AET, already delivering training, moving from assessment into teaching or developing an existing teaching role, the Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF) can help you take that next step.

And if you're unsure whether Level 3 or Level 4 is the right teaching qualification for you, get in touch with Holistic Therapies Training Academy and we'll be happy to help you explore the most appropriate route.
